Learn the basics of playing the piano under the guidance of a professional with the effective STARTTI course that has received a lot of good feedback! The course is suitable for those starting from scratch or reviewing rusty skills for the piano playing enthusiast who wants to learn the basics well and get a good foundation for playing the hobby. In the course, you will learn to play with a good touch. In addition, you will learn to read notes and play notes with both hands in the two octave range. In the course, we also go through the basics of chord accompaniment and improvisation.

WHO IS THE START COURSE SUITABLE FOR?

Startti is a beginner's piano course that is suitable not only for adults but also for older children, or for elementary school students studying under the guidance of an adult. You don't need to know anything already. In the course, you will learn the basics of playing the piano well and get a good foundation for playing the hobby. The course includes 10 weeks of lessons and mainly consists of videos and sheet music. The material is available for one year from the start of the course, so you can study and repeat things according to your own schedule when it suits you.

CONTENTS OF THE STARTTI COURSE

Week 1 – Getting to know the piano and a good playing position

In the first week's program, we get to know the piano and good playing position, we practice good basic sound and touch, we familiarize ourselves with the sheet music and the keyboard with octave lights, as well as notes of different durations and the logic of the number of notes. In the playing exercises, we start with a whole note with rests from middle C.

Week 2 – New tunes and fun but useful exercises

During the second week, we learn new notes (h, a, d1, e1) and time values ​​(half note and rest, quarter note and rest) through several fun little exercises by playing non-legato hands separately and together.

Week 3 – Playing by ear

In the third week, we will try playing by ear, we will again learn new notes (g, f1) and time values ​​(dotted half note), and we will continue the exercises for playing separately and together with the hands. I will also talk about borrowing notes from another stave and the slightly special pause "phenomenon".

Week 4 – Singing legato playing

Now let's learn singing legato playing and practice playing the legato arch, which is one of the means of articulating music. At the same time, we learn new notes (f, g1), a new time signature and a time-honored eighth note with rests.

Week 5 – Developing playing technique

This week you will learn to play more than middle c, as we get used to the changes in hand positions on the keyboard. Playing technique is developed by practicing wrist and finger tacto. You will also learn the meaning of fermat, which is a repeat sign, and the new notes e and a1. We also continue to play by ear.

Week 6 – Enlivening the playing

In the sixth week, we talk about e.g. emotions, dynamics and dive into musical expression, enlivening the playing. The 1-line octave space can be completely conquered with the note h1, and even in the small octave space, after the small d note, there is only one note left to learn. This week we will also practice playing in the unisono.

Week 7 – Fingers more diver training

Get your fingers deeper with scale training and the first etudes! Let's practice the C major scale with both hands separately, and then we have two octave notes in the glove, which can hold a total of three c's!

Week 8 – Add emotion to the game with longing and sadness

After the happy C major scene, we move to wistful and sad moods with the notes of the A minor scale. You will also learn how natural and harmonic minor differ from each other.

Week 9 – Diving into the world of chords

This week we get to peek into the world of chords. We will learn the three most important chords of C major and A minor and immediately get to use them in a few different ways to accompany Finnish folk songs!

Week 10 – Mastering the basics of improvisation

The last week contains fun and fearless adventures in the world of improvisation! I will guide you to the beginning of improvisation with a few practice tips, in which we will make use of the chords learned the previous week and the simple chord pattern formed from them.

Your teacher

Ilona Vähäsöyrinki (née Kava) from Kontiolahti, North Karelia, started her professional piano studies at the Joensuu Conservatory with a minor in organ, after which she continued her studies in Kuopio at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts and Savonia University of Applied Sciences, completing a piano pedagogy degree in 2013 and a master's degree in church music in 2014, majoring in organ.

Jaakko Untamala was the teacher in the professional piano studies. In addition, the master courses have been taught by e.g. Erik T. Tawastjerna and Olli Mustonen. In Lied music, Vähäsöyrinki has been guided by Irina Zahharenkova, Heikki Pellinen, Ilmo Ranta, Ilkka Paananen and Marita Viitasalo.

In the years 2012-2015, Vähäsöyrinki worked at the Kuopio Conservatory as a piano teacher and substitute.

After moving to Kytäjä in Hyvinkää, he has worked as an entrepreneur in the music industry and mainly works with the following things: Lauluhuone.fi concert activities, private piano lessons, Nettipianokoulu Ilo and Lapsikuoro Ilo.

The musician couple Ilona and Joose Vähäsöyrinki often perform together at public concerts and private events.

The teacher of the course is Ilona Vähäsöyrinki, master of music and piano pedagogue, with over 15 years of teaching experience. His vision is that as many as possible who dream of playing the piano could learn to play and enjoy the joy of playing! That's why he has built the course very carefully and with strong professional skills, so that by following the course instructions, you can't help but learn!

The content of the course is planned based on the level performance guidelines of the Association of Finnish music schools, and the teaching progresses consistently, just like in the classroom teaching at music schools.

It's good to have a piano, preferably an acoustic one, but an electric piano will do just fine too! Even with a skipper, at least the Startti course can be completed.
